The Pittsburg Repeater Organization was organized in 1971 by a small group of Amateur Radio Operators in Pittsburg, Kansas. The organization was formed to build and install an Amateur Repeater in the 146 MHz Amateur Radio Band. The Organization received its Non-Profit Corporation status on August 6, 1971. The original repeater license was effective September 20, 1971 with the Call Sign WA0VVW. The repeater was installed and operational on 146.34/146.94 MHz at its KOAM-TV site on September 24,1971.

Rolland 'Slim' Cummings,  64, of Pittsburg, passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, Pittsburg.

He was born September 21, 1942, at Iola, KS, the son of Charles Leonard and Marjorie (Quick) Cummings.

Mr. Cummings graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg (now Pittsburg State University) with a Bachelor of Science (Physics) Degree in June of 1964. He went on to receive his Master of Science (Math) Degree in July of 1973.

Mr. Cummings worked at Boeing in Wichita after receiving his undergraduate degree, returning to Kansas State College of Pittsburg as a faculty member in September of 1967 where he became Coordinator of Closed Circuit Television. He became the Coordinator of Instructional Media in 1988. Mr. Cummings received his forty-year service pin from Pittsburg State University this spring. He was a computer expert and had taught programming classes at Pittsburg State University.

On March 15, 1980, he was united in marriage to Maeve Lyons at Pittsburg. She survives of the home.

Mr. Cummings was of the Methodist Faith. He was also a member of the Pittsburg Repeater Organization, Amateur Radio Frequency Coordinator, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, IEEE Computer Society, and North Texas PC Users Group.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one cousin, Richard Middleton, of Kentucky.

Mr. Cummings is preceded in death by his Parents, one infant brother, and one infant sister.

A Celebration of Life was held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2007, at the Brenner Mortuary. The family received friends at the family home. Memorials may be given to the Computer Science Information Systems Department at Pittsburg State University for Scholarships. These may be left at or sent to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
